Elisabeth Ochsenfeld drew and painted the hills that border the Semenic mountain plateau, more specifically the horizon of the village of Gărâna (România). The area was settled in the 19th century by the Pemi, a German-speaking population from Bohemia, brought over during the Austro-Hungarian Empire to clear the land. The hills depicted are at once abstract, gestural and decorative.
